Garage Doors Explained
Below you will find an easy-to-understand breakdown of the differences between garage doors types and materials.
Door Types:

Canopy garage doors when open have approximately one third of the door protruding from the garage. (Hence the term canopy).

Generally only available on doors up to 8 wide, canopy garage doors are easy to open and light in weight.

Due to the action of the door, canopy garage doors are not best suited to automation and SWR would not recommend this as an option when choosing a new door or automating an existing door.

Retractable garage doors run on tracks fitted horizontally into the garage as the diagram below. When open, the door panel is almost always within the garage, unlike canopy garage door gear.

Retractable garage door gear is available on single garage doors and double garage doors up to 16 wide.

Retractable up and over garage door gear is suitable for automation and often if your existing garage door is fitted with retractable gear then we can retro install an automation kit.

Sectional garage doors lift vertically and close against rubber strip attached to the powder coated framework and bottom of the door. With the choice of single skin where no insulation is required or two insulated options of 20mm and 40mm means this garage door gear choice offers uncompromised weather protection and security.

Often the full structural opening is available as drive through space when a sectional garage door is installed with the appropriate automation package. Vertically opening and none protruding means you achieve more driveway space for the storage of another car.

Size options of 2100mm wide to 5500mm sectional garage doors wide means that most garages can accommodate this advanced but value for money option.

Roller Shutters have maintained a position as one of the market leaders, through continuous development and innovation. Manufactured from tough twin walled slats with an insulating core, the curtain is held in place with high performance webbing that is unaffected by extremes of temperature. A strong extruded top slat and the seceuroglide patented comb locking mechanism effectively resist attack by would be intruders.

This roller shutter is available in a choice of fifteen paint or woodgrain finishes, allowing you to match your door to existing paintwork or double glazing for a co ordinated look to your home.

Side hinge doors open outwards and therefore need good clearance when being opened so not great if you have a short driveway or open directly onto a public area.  A good choice if there is no clearance inside your garage to allow for an up and over door. Security is good if you have overlapping leaves and use bolts at the top and bottom of the door.

A very traditional looking style of door that is manufactured in timber, GRP or steel.
